Karela mixed vegetable chadchadi/makhamakha/dry curry in Peanut

Karela mixed vegetable chadchadi/makhamakha/dry curry ( Only for the serious karela lover’s)


Karela (Bittergourd) – 1 (cut in small square pieces)

Kaddu (Pumpkin) – 1/2 cup ( cut in small square pieces)

Kacha kela (Raw banana) – 1/2 cup ( cut in small square pieces)

Carrot – 1/4 cup ( cut in small square pieces)

Potato – 1 ( a small one cut in small square pieces)

Peanuts – 1/4 cup

Garlic – 8 cloves

Onion – one big onion (chopped)

Shallots – 6-7 (whole)

Red chilly powder – 1 tbsp

Turmeric powder – a pinch

besan/ gram flour – 1 tbsp (optional)

zeera – 1tbsp

salt to taste

water – 1/2 cup

oil – 2 tsp


First prepare a paste of peanuts(raw) and garlic.(Add a little water to prepare the paste)

In a pan heat oil, add besan. Bhuno for some time till the besan turns slightly black in colour.

Add zeera. After zeera stops crackling add all the vegetables , the onion and the shallots.Add the turmeric powder, chilly powder and salt. Add the water. Keep covered. first keep the flame higher, then keep it low. Let it simmer till all the vegetables are half boiled.

Then add the prepared peanut garlic masala paste. Mix well and cover again.

Continue to mix in between.

Remove from heat when all the vegetables are completly cooked and the water evaporates completely.

Now enjoy this dry karela mixed vegetable with hot steamed rice or chapati.
